WHAT IS LAS FALLAS? Spectacular effigies depicting satirical figures are erected throughout Valencia, and are burnt at the end of the festival

EVERY MARCH

LA DESPERTÀ The brass bands of each local Falla club marches down the streets giving the 'wake up call'

8 AM EVERY DAY

LA MASCLETÀ An explosive and overwhelmingly loud display of firecrackers takes place in every neighbourhood

2 PM EVERY DAY

LA PLANTÀ The day the fallas (effigies) are built up and completed in preparation for the festival

15th march

AWARD-GIVING CEREMONY The 'falleras' dress up in their finest traditional costumes and the Fallas Queen is chosen

17th march

LA OFRENDA All the falla clubs gather to perform the 'Flower Offering' the patron saint of Valencia

17th & 18th march

NIC DEL FOC Head down to the Passeig de l'Albereda for the impressive fireworks display

1:30am  18th march

CAVALCADA DEL FOC Colourful and noisy parade with all sorts of fire displays, including giant mechanisms, floats and people in costumes

7pm  19th march

LA CREMÀ The grand finale of the festival, when the fallas (effigies) are set on fire
