TRAVEL RESOURCES

I’ve used hundreds of travel companies over the last 15+ years, and I’ve learned a lot about how useful it is to have a directory of trustworthy travel resources. With this in mind, I’ve put together my favorite travel resources here, to make travel planning a bit easier for you.

I’ve personally used the companies listed here, and I’m happy to recommend them to you too.

FLIGHTS

My go to flight booking sites are Skyscanner and Kiwi.com. I love their ‘Everywhere’ option, which gives you a lot of flexibility.

But I also love the amazing deals that Jack’s Flight Club and Going send out on their newsletters. Jack’s Flight Club is aimed for those in the UK and Going is for those in the US.

SKYSCANNER

Use the ‘Everywhere’ option and choose by month to find the best deals

KIWI.COM

The ‘Anywhere’ and ‘Anytime’ options give the most flexibility

ACCOMMODATION

I use a variety of booking sites for accommodation. My favorite is Booking.com, as it has the largest selection and a great cancellation policy. Other sites I use include Expedia and Hotels.com.

For Airbnb-type accommodation, I tend to use Vrbo. I have used Airbnb in the past, but they have made some unethical decisions recently, so I do not support them any longer.

If you love hostels, Hostelworld is a great option. They have a great review system and they include hostels to suit a range of budgets.

If you are a pet lover, sign up with TrustedHousitters to get connected with home owners worldwide who need a housesitter. In return, you get to live in amazing places for free and experience life as a local.

BOOKING.COM

A very easy to use site with a great selection of accommodation types.

EXPEDIA

You can book hotels and bundle up with other travel services such as flights and car rental.

HOTELS.COM

Another great site with a large range of hotels for all budgets.

VRBO

A more ethical option to Airbnb

HOSTELWORLD

Great for backpackers and those on a budget

TRUSTEDHOUSESITTERS

The ideal option for pet lovers

DAY TRIPS AND TOURS

Organized guided tours and day trips are a great way to explore a destination, particularly if you don’t have your own transport.

From food tours and horse riding tours to hiking trips and wildlife spotting trips, companies like Get Your Guide, Viator and Klook are a great way to discover the world.

GET YOUR GUIDE

My favorite tour company and the one I tend to use the most

VIATOR

The most popular tour company in the US

KLOOK

The most popular tour company for tours and day trips in Asia

GETTING AROUND

Whether you prefer to rent a car to get around or to catch a train, it’s really useful to have some sites you can rely on.

If you are looking to rent a car for that epic road trip, I love Discover Cars for their customer service.

To book your railway tickets all over Europe, Omio gives you the cheapest fares and the fastest options (for both trains and buses).

For ferries, train and bus tickets, Bookaway covers worldwide destinations.

Uber is a great alternative to taxis, and you can conveniently order straight from your phone wherever you are.

TRAVEL INSURANCE

The best travel tip I could ever give someone is to not travel without travel insurance. But finding the right policy can be a bit of a headache.

Hey Mondo is my preferred insurance company. In case of a claim, you don’t have to pay anything in advance, it has a great app with a 24/7 doctor chat function, and it has Covid-19 coverage on all products. Plus my readers get a 5% discount using this link.

For adventure trips, World Nomads is a great option. They cover most adventure activities, and Covid-19 related cancellations and self-isolation costs.

If you are nomadic or looking for long term travel insurance, Safety Wing is your best option.

TRAVEL GEAR

Get the right equipment for your travels. I tend to use Patagonia for most of my travel gear, from backpacks to outdoor clothing and footwear. I love their sustainability ethos.

For travelers venturing out to remote areas, I’d recommend Grayl, a reusable water bottle with a powerful filtration system.

When it comes to luggage, aside from Osprey backpacks, my go to suitcase brand is American Tourister and Level8 Luggage. I love how light and sturdy they are and they come in a range of fun colors.

Finally, you’ve got Amazon, where you can find anything and everything, and if you are a Prime member, their next day delivery is great for those last minute purchases.
